The 13th International Working Conference on Stored Product Protection (IWCSPP 2027) is a premier international forum dedicated to advancing research, innovation, and sustainable solutions for the protection of stored agricultural commodities and food. Organized once every four years, the conference brings together scientists, researchers, academicians, policymakers, industry leaders, extension professionals, development agencies, and students from across the world to address emerging challenges in stored product protection and post-harvest management.
The conference, themed "Advancing Research, Technology & Innovations in Stored Product Protection for Sustainable Food Security", highlights the critical role of effective storage systems in minimizing post-harvest losses, preserving food quality, and strengthening global food security. At a time when the world faces increasing challenges due to population growth, climate change, food waste, and evolving pest dynamics, the conference provides an important platform for scientific exchange, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the development of innovative strategies that support resilient agricultural systems.
Scientific deliberations will focus on a broad spectrum of topics including stored-product insect biology, integrated pest management, fumigation technologies, grain storage engineering, food safety, biological control, resistance management, digital monitoring systems, precision storage technologies, and emerging innovations. By bringing together experts from academia, research organizations, government agencies, and industry, the conference seeks to accelerate scientific progress and promote sustainable post-harvest practices that contribute to global food security.
Objectives of 13th IWCSPP
● Promote global exchange of scientific knowledge and research findings on stored product protection, post-harvest management, and food security among researchers, academicians, industry professionals, and policymakers.
● Showcase innovative technologies and sustainable solutions for the prevention and management of storage pests, food quality deterioration, and post-harvest losses across agricultural value chains.
● Strengthen international collaboration and partnerships among scientific institutions, government agencies, private industries, and development organizations working in the field of stored product protection.
● Encourage the adoption of integrated and environmentally responsible approaches for pest management, food safety, storage infrastructure, and climate-resilient post-harvest systems.
● Contribute to sustainable food security and agricultural resilience by advancing research, capacity building, policy development, and technology transfer that reduce post-harvest losses and enhance the availability of safe, high-quality food worldwide.
The International Working Conference on Stored Product Protection (IWCSPP) has been the world's premier scientific forum dedicated to stored product protection since its inception. During the 1960s and 1970s, a group of stored-product entomologists recognized that research in stored product protection received limited attention within broader entomological meetings. To address this need, Dr. Bob Davis of the Stored-Product Insects Research and Development Laboratory, Savannah, Georgia, USA, initiated discussions with fellow scientists during the International Congress of Entomology held in Canberra, Australia, in 1972. The proposal received overwhelming support, leading to the establishment of a dedicated international conference exclusively focused on stored product protection.
Since then, the International Working Conference on Stored Product Protection (IWCSPP) has evolved into one of the most respected global scientific gatherings in the field of post-harvest protection. Organized every four years, the conference provides an international platform for sharing research findings, emerging technologies, and innovative management strategies aimed at reducing post-harvest losses and ensuring global food security.
The 12th International Working Conference on Stored Product Protection (IWCSPP) was successfully held in Berlin, Germany, from 7–11 October 2018, attracting worldwide participation and showcasing significant scientific advancements in stored product protection.
Today, IWCSPP brings together approximately 500–600 scientists, consultants, extension professionals, policymakers, and industry representatives from across the globe. The conference addresses the latest developments in the safe storage and protection of durable food commodities including grains, pulses, spices, dried fruits, herbs, animal feed, as well as non-food products such as museum artifacts, tobacco, and wood products, thereby contributing significantly to sustainable post-harvest management and global food security.
The Entomological Society of India (ESI) was founded in 1938 and is a registered professional society under the Societies Registration Act, 1957 (Registration No. S.2434 of 1963–64, dated 12 March 1964). The Society is also registered with NITI Aayog under the unique ID VO/NGO-DL/2016/0104219. It is one of the largest professional scientific societies in India serving entomologists, researchers, academicians, students, and professionals working in entomology and allied disciplines.
The primary objective of the Society is to encourage, promote, and disseminate knowledge in entomological sciences. The Society regularly organizes scientific meetings, conferences, symposia, workshops, and annual general body meetings at its headquarters and various locations across India. These events provide an excellent platform for researchers and professionals to exchange ideas, present scientific advancements, and strengthen collaboration in the field of insect science.
Over the decades, the Entomological Society of India has played a pivotal role in advancing research, education, and innovation in entomology. Through its scientific publications, conferences, and academic activities, the Society continues to contribute significantly to the development of sustainable pest management, agricultural productivity, biodiversity conservation, and food security in India and beyond.
